About Jackie...
Artistic Director/Instructor/Performer for DoS - Dances of Spain
Jackie Villegas-MacLin has over 35 years of extensive training in Flamenco, Classical Spanish, Mexican Folk, Ballet, and Jazz dance, as well as a background in musical theatre as a featured dancer and choreographer of Musical Theater.
Jackie starting dancing at the age of 5 years old under the direction of Rosemarie Cruz, in her hometown of Santa Barbara California. Introduced to Flamenco dance as a teenager, Jackie discovered her life's passion and began her flamenco studies with Roberto Amaral in Los Angeles. After moving to Kirkland Washington, Jackie met her mentor and teacher Maria Morca, who graciously facilitated Jackie's dream of becoming the director and teacher of her own flamenco dance studio, DoS - Dances of Spain.
Locally Jackie has been teaching children, teen and adult dance flamenco classes for the past 35 years. She conducts her Dances of Spain flamenco classes at Kirkland Dance Center and the International Ballet Academy where she is on faculty as their flamenco dance teacher for the IBA students. Jackie is also a guest instructor at the Pacific Northwest Ballet School in Seattle as well as the executive Director of the non-profit organization Espacio de Arte who promotes and supports flamenco community access in Seattle in the flamenco traditions of dance music and singing.
Jackie has trained with renown Flamenco artists nationally and at the National Institute of Flamenco in New Mexico. Internationally she often travels to Spain and immerses in intensive flamenco studies with maestros in Madrid, Sevilla and Jerez de la Frontera in Spain.
About DoS Performing Troupe...
Dances of Spain is a Kirkland based performing troupe, dedicated to the art and tradition of the dances from Southern Spain. Though our main focus in dance is traditional, we also tap in to the ever-changing and diverse flamenco culture and include contemporary flamenco, classical Spanish, and flamenco fusions in our dance repertoire. Led by artistic director Jackie Villegas-MacLin, DoS has been delighting audiences through-out the Puget Sound area for over 15 years, through international music & dance festivals and private events. Sharing our passion for Flamenco with new and aficionado audiences expressively, rhythmically and colorfully is the hallmark of the Dances of Spain's objective.
Dances of Spain's Advance beginning to Advance students perform in an annual Flamenco Showcase in various theaters in Kirkland and Bellevue.
